Frog Life Cycle

Northern Leopard Frogs are native to Manitoba and can be found in many waterways in southern Manitoba. Raising frogs from eggs is as easy as taking care of a pet fish. First, students will begin by discussing what conditions tadpoles would need to live. Then, students will assess the needs of living things and provide the requirements of life for the tadpoles, ex. provide a tank for space, air pump for oxygen, etc. Students will observe and record changes as the tadpoles hatch from the eggs, learn to swim, develop legs and transform into adult frogs.

Listening for the mating calls of adult frogs and collecting frog eggs from the creek, transferring them to a tank and watching them hatch!
Freshly hatched tadpoles eat, learn to swim and grow very big!
Large tadpoles begin to grow legs and develop into froglets, the tail on the froglet begins to get smaller until it disappears! We are left with an adult frog.
